Shutter Down Strike In Quetta, Southern Balochistan
QUETTA: A complete shutter down was observed in Quetta and southern parts of the Balochistan on Thursday in protest against the massive load shedding in the province.
The strike call was given by Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) and supported by trader and farmers’ communities criticizing the long hours of power outage.
Most of the business and trading centers and vegetable markets situated on Mezan Chawk, Jinnah Road, Abdul Sattar Road, Pashtunabad, Satellite Town, Suraj Ganj Bazaar, Prince Road, Saryab Road, Joint Road, remained closed for the day. The traffic was also thin on roads wearing deserted look.
Strict security measures were taken to deal with any untoward incident. Frontier Corps and Police deployed on different places of metropolis and the personnel continued snap checking of vehicles and people.
The strike was observed in southern area of province including Pishin, Loralai, Ziarat, Killa Abdullah, Killa Saifullah, Musa Khel, Sherani and some other areas.
According to Press release issued here, a party spokesman said the farmers and growers are suffering millions of rupees due to the massive power cut and it had also badly affected the standing crops which are only dependent of people in interior province.
QESCO is carrying out 8 to 10 long hours of load shedding in Quetta and in the rural areas electricity is available merely two to four hours. They claimed that QESCO has deliberately increased the hours of load shedding as saying that many uplift projects are not completed in time.
“If the power outage was not reduced we would intensify the protest and continued it till demands were not met,” he warned.
