University Students Protest Against Scarcity of Water
QUETTA: Students of the University of Balochistan (UoB) blocked Saryab Road for traffic on Tuesday in protest against the scarcity of water at the university.
A large number of students, including females, staged a protest demonstration on Saryab Road and put up barricades disrupting the flow of traffic. They chanted slogans against the University management for not supplying water properly to the boys’ and girls’ hostels.
“Water supply has been disconnected for the past four months and it was available for merely fifteen minutes,” complained a female student.
She said that Vice Chancellor ensured the students last week that the problem would be resolved within in few days but it the matter had not been fully resolved yet.
Other students also complained about the water supply as saying that it is a basic need and students were facing great difficulties due to scarcity of water.
“If the water supply did not restore timely, we will continue to strike,” warned another organizer of the strike.
The Vice Chancellor of University Professor Abdul Nabi held talks with the enraged students. The protestors were dispersed after assurance that the issue would be addressed within a day. Later on, the traffic was restored on Saryab Road after closure of two hours.
