Ambassador Peterson Meets Baloch Chief Minister

QUETTA: The US Ambassador to Pakistan, Anne W. Peterson, on Wednesday called on Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani at CM Secretariat here.

US Ambassador while expressing grief over the colossal losses wrought by the recent floods said that America was the first county to come forward and help thousands of stranded people in flood stricken areas of Pakistan.

She noted the US was providing about $200 million aid to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and International Organizations including WHO, UNHCR and UNICEF to support the humanitarian logistics operation and provide much-needed emergency relief supplies in connection with health, shelter, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programmes in calamity-hit areas.

There are 15 US helicopters, several boats and one C-130 air jet engaged in relief operation who so far had rescued over 10,000 marooned people, she added.

Chief Minister, Nawab Raisani on the occasion lauded the unflinching support by the US government for the rescue and relief activities being carried out for millions of calamity hit people in parts of the country.

Provincial Minister Rahila Durrani,  US Consul General in Karachi, William J Martin, and other officials were also present.
