Balochistan to Present Flood Losses at CCI Meeting
QUETTA: Balochistan Government has decided to presents its case at the Council of Common Interests (CCI) regarding the flood devastation and losses caused in the aftermath of the great catastrophe across the province seeking assistance for relief and rehabilitation.
It was decided during a meeting of Cabinet presided over by Chief Minister of Balochistan Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani here on Thursday. The meeting had decided to evolve a comprehensive strategy to represent the case of Balochistan where flash floods triggered had played havoc with the life and property of the people.
The Cabinet praised the performance of provincial government, Pakistan Army, Non-governmental organizations and local administration during in rescue and relief operations. The Cabinet had allocated Rs 250 million from non-development budget and also appreciated the contribution by MPAs from their development budget in the wake of relief operations.
It was decided in the meeting that the Provincial Government will demand funds to take initiative in rehabilitation process and also ask the Federal Government to write of loan taken by affected people and out standing dues of QESCO.
“The efforts were made by provincial departments and provincial ministers under the supervision of Chief Minister during the relief operations had restored the confidence of affected people,” observed in meeting.
The participants had been informed that province has stock of 134, 000 sacks of flour which would be enough for four months. So far 12, 000 flour sacks and 50, 000 food packets had been distributed among the affected people.
There is need of Rs 15.5 billion for the repair of affected agriculture land and Rs 2042 million for reconstruction of educational institutions and also heavy sum of money is required in the wake of compensation for those who lost their cattle, livestock and other property.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister of Balochistan Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani has said that government is facing three great challenges included rescue, relief and rehabilitation.
“We should be honest and evolve a comprehensive strategy to resolve the issues and ensure its implementation,” he said adding that it is the fortune of the government that enjoying the support of National Institutions, Pakistan Army, America, Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE and Turkey.
